What is MowMow?

A social app for sport. Users pick their sports from 140 options in four categories: land, sky, water and parasports. They can then create events, share and view content about those sports, and connect with like-minded people.

What did the client need?

Full app design and development. The founders brought the idea, basic branding and the main functions they wanted, and asked for an orange and dark grey colour scheme.

How did the project run?

  1. 1

Wireframes and user journeys. The team mapped creating a profile, making a booking and connecting with other people, then used them to draw out detailed use cases.

  2. 2

Visual design. A colour palette built around the requested orange and dark grey.

  3. 3

Two-week releases. Agile sprints with regular calls. Builds were shared through TestFlight for testing with the founders.

  4. 4

Planning ahead. The solution architect advised on how the app would grow and how to collect analytics.

What was the result?

MowMow launched on iOS in December 2019 as a fully working app. Users’ feedback was very good: they liked creating bookings, connecting with nearby people who share their interests, and getting content that suits them.

Next on the roadmap were an Android version and new features, including wearables.

What did the client say?

“They have the ability to understand what we need and effectively document it through wireframes. They also understand the bigger picture in terms of client goals.”

How much does a social sports app cost?

The first year of design and development cost about £55,000. It covered an iOS app with profiles, events, bookings, location-based connections, a community feed, rewards and email integration. Adding Android, wearables or live video increases the cost. Most apps we build cost between £5,000 and £150,000. See what affects app development cost.
